I fully agree that the current forums *should* be nicer....they have some shortcomings that none of us likes.
....BUT....
there is one issue why I strongly urge to keep the current ones, and that is unified mananagement and Access control! It may not seem as important to users, but it's quite a big issue to me and while I dislike certain aspects of our forums, I'm totaly in love with their integration and maintainance.
Actually what posts and forums you can (or cannot) see is derived from your user rights, and we can quickly and dynamically change forums to our current needs and we can also evaluate things the other direction.
If we are to operate external forums - we'd have to program a user synchronisation, least we want to copy and maintain some 2000 accounts manually.....
Thus, despite agreeing that the forums could use some drastic improvement, I'd prefer to stick with them and I'd rather check what features we're really missing here, making a list of it. Maybe if we can make a consolidated list, we can convince Omega or find another php programmer to add these features here for us.
